Yonna Wright is CMS’s 7th grade Spartan of the Week for the week of April 3, 2023. Yonna is the of daughter of JoAnn Luce and Shane Wright. Mr. Ronnie Swango, English teacher, nominated her. Mr. Swango praised, “Yonna demonstrates exceptional work ethic and has a great attitude in my classroom. In addition, she stays after school throughout the week to perform on the Energizers. Despite her busy schedule, Yonna still finds the time to complete work and even spends extra time in class assisting other students with their assignments.” In addition to being on the Energizers dance team, Yonna is a member of the CMS choir and the Foodie club. In her free time, she likes to dance and hang out with friends and family. Her favorite classes are social studies and ELA focus. Yonna would like to become a traveling nurse after high school. When asked what she liked best about being a student at Connersville Middle School, Yonna said, “I like that the teachers take their time to make sure the students are okay throughout the day.”
Stella Holmes is CMS’s 8th grade Spartan of the Week for the week of April 3, 2023. Stella is the daughter of Scott Holmes and Katie Pirigyi. Mr. Matt Hafertepen, Diamond social studies teacher, nominated her. Mr. Hafertepen praised, “Stella displayed honesty and maturity during a Media Center visit. She opened a book and about $60 fell out. She immediately turned it in to Mrs. Alcorn. I don’t think the idea to keep the money even entered her mind. Her honesty is greatly appreciated.” Stella is a Media Center Aide and a member of the Foodie club at CMS. Stella was also on the CMS volleyball and basketball teams, and is currently on the track and field team. She was an Honor Roll student last year in 7th grade and continues to be Honor Roll this year. Outside of school, she plays on a club volleyball team. In her free time, Stella likes to hang out with friends and make art. Her favorite classes are English and Spanish. After high school, she plans to attend college to become a lawyer. Stella’s advice for 7th graders is to “make sure to turn work in on time and do your best.” When asked what she liked best about CMS, Stella stated, “I like being able to hang out with my friends at school.”
