Dear FCSC Families and Staff,
Over the past several days, our Fayette County community has experienced tremendous hardship as a result of the flooding and devastation throughout our area. Many of our families and staff members have spent countless hours cleaning homes, helping neighbors, relocating loved ones, and responding to needs throughout our community. We recognize that the impact of this event has been not only physical, but emotional and mental as well.
After careful consideration of the needs of our students, families, staff, and community, Fayette County School Corporation will not be in session on Monday, August 17.
We know that many in our community are still actively working through the effects of the flooding. Some are dealing with damage to their homes and property with substantial work still to be done, some have been displaced, and many are simply physically and mentally exhausted from the work of the past several days. We believe it is important to give our FCSC family another day to focus on their families, their homes, their neighbors, and themselves.
Tuesday, August 18, will be a staff-only work day and a soft start for our FCSC staff. Staff members will have the flexibility to work in our school buildings as we prepare to welcome students back, or they may choose to serve alongside others in our community by assisting with continued cleanup and recovery efforts.
Our hope is that Tuesday provides our staff with an opportunity to reconnect, prepare, serve, and begin transitioning back into our school routines while still respecting the very real needs that exist throughout our community.
Students will return to school, and normal school operations will resume on Wednesday, August 19th.
As we prepare for Wednesday, we also recognize that "normal" may still look very different for many of our families. There may continue to be transportation challenges, displaced families, damaged homes, and other circumstances beyond anyone's control. We will approach these situations with grace, patience, flexibility, and compassion. No family should feel that school adds another burden during an already difficult time.
If your child has been directly affected by the flood, we ask that you fill out this Google Form so that we know of how to best serve you and are prepared for possible alternate tranportation plans.

We also ask everyone (our students, families, and staff) to continue to take care of themselves and one another. The physical work of recovery is demanding, and the emotional impact of what our community has experienced should not be overlooked. Our schools are more than buildings; they are places of connection, stability, and support. When we return, we want to be mindful that each person walking through our doors may be carrying something we cannot see.
The strength and compassion displayed throughout Fayette County during this crisis have been remarkable. We have watched neighbors help neighbors, staff members serve families, and people throughout our community step forward wherever there has been a need. That spirit of caring for one another is what will carry us through the days ahead.
For now, please continue to focus on what matters most: your health, your family, and your safety. We will continue to recover together, and we look forward to welcoming our students back on Wednesday, August 19th.

We know that many of our families have been impacted by high water, evacuations, property damage, and other challenges caused by the flooding. As our community begins to respond and recover, FCSC wants to help connect families with available resources and support.
If your family has been impacted by the flooding and has an immediate need, please complete our Flood Needs Submission Form. Information submitted through the form will help us better understand the needs of our families and connect them with available community resources whenever possible.

Connersville High School remains open as a shelter with cots, food, water, basic toiletries, facilities for washing, etc. Meals have and will continue to be served three times a day as long as the need is there.
Additionally, for those unable to get to the high school, food will be provided to families at Eastview Elementary School as follows:

Fayette County School Corporation Announces FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL PK-12 Students During the 2026-2027 School Year
The Fayette County School Corporation is excited to announce that every student in grades Pre-K through 12 will receive FREE breakfast and lunch throughout the 2026-2027 school year!
This is a significant expansion of the district's meal program. In previous years, free meals were available only to students in Pre-K through Grade 6. Beginning this school year, every FCSC student Pre-K through grade 12 will have access to nutritious breakfasts and lunches at no cost to families. Extras and à la carte items must be purchased.
"We know that students learn best when their basic needs are met," said Superintendent Jeremy Duncan. "This expansion helps remove a financial burden for families while ensuring every child has access to healthy meals each school day. We are incredibly grateful to be able to offer this opportunity to all of our students and families!"
Although meals will be provided free of charge to all students, the district is asking every family who may qualify to continue completing the Free and Reduced Meal Application.
These applications play a critical role in determining eligibility for valuable state and federal funding that supports educational programs and services throughout the district. Completing the application also helps Fayette County School Corporation maintain opportunities that benefit students and families in the future.
Families should also be aware that negative meal balances from previous school years will carry forward and remain on student accounts. While current meals will be free, prior unpaid balances are still owed.
To help families eliminate existing meal debt, the district is establishing an Student Meal Assistance Fund and is seeking the support of generous community members.
Individuals, churches, civic organizations, businesses, and other groups interested in making a contribution to help pay down outstanding student meal balances are encouraged to contact Superintendent Jeremy Duncan at jjduncan@g.fayette.k12.in.us.

Registration for the 2026-2027 school year remains open. Families who have not yet enrolled their new students or registered their returning students are encouraged to contact their child's home school today to complete the process.
